The irony of being heard

Mom moment: I found this oddly ironic given my post earlier this week.

Last night I was driving my kid to ball & a new diamond across town. I found myself in the left turning lane 1.2 km too early. I say out loud “Do I ever drive anywhere without making a mistake?”

My 6 year old replies: “Mom! Mistakes are learning! It’s okay!”

To which my 10 year old replies “Yeah but she doesn’t learn she makes them EVERY-TIME”

Then I proceeded to make two more wrong turns ……

At least one kid takes my “lessons” seriously! Here’s that ironic post again: https://connectionattheintersection.blog/2018/07/17/a-clear-road-take-the-shots/

A clear road – take the shots

Playing not to lose doesn’t cut it. You need to take action like there is no possibility besides success but in the course of that journey fail fast, learn & get over the certain setbacks you are bound to encounter.

What’s actually inspiring is that individuals who follow this advice do not actually have a ton of identifiable failures. Except they do but when you talk to them you can feel that it’s so ingrained in their growth mindset that it is learning (not failure) that they can’t even recall it as anything but (learning). Rather they discuss, describe and think about the experiences as only that – learning or “I tried that ands”

Have you met such folks? How do they do that? Easy right? Doesn’t always feel like it but it’s the straightest road. Here are some tips: http://ow.ly/OrGC30kZ3c8

Taking off the boots – the end of stampede networking for another year!

My networking for Stampede is now wrapped up. I had lots of fun. Reconnected & caught up with a few great people.Met some new folks.

According to this article I did it all wrong! http://ow.ly/Li0z30kX8lH

Similar ideas to what I had posted about at the beginning of the greatest outdoor show: http://ow.ly/rwSG30kX8pe

If I had to give my own advise on networking I’d say three things

(1) Be authentic & if that means that the event is completely not your style & you don’t see it as an opportunity to challenge yourself maybe it isn’t the right one for you (2) because you need to have some fun with it! Fine if you have to go home and tell your spouse it was a drag but after a while if it really is it will also be pointless (by the way bring her/him!) &

(3) real networking needs to have connection. Connection needs to be a bit “more” as it is deep relationships and connection that are at the intersection of health, happiness & success. Connection is that magic ingredient so I think networking should support that. As these linked articles note some of the classic big network scenes arguably have their issues. If it isn’t authentic, it isn’t fun & it isn’t fostering connection let go of guilt & don’t sign up!

It’s the little things

No one likes to do timesheets but good data in = good decisions and all that jazz….

My new timesheets include a quote for everyday such as this one.

It’s the little things! For a quote junkie like me this particular little thing makes me want to open up the system and see what today’s quote might be!!
